November 28, 2023Rich in ancient history and known for its fantastic weather, Athens ranks among the top places to get married in Europe. As a destination wedding photographer, I have visited numerous wedding venues in Athens, and I'm always impressed by the excellence of their services. Greek vendors truly know how to create a great atmosphere for couples and their guests, and Athens provides a stunning backdrop for wedding ceremonies.
After shooting several weddings in the Greek capital, I decided to compile a list featuring the best wedding venues in Athens, Greece. Although there are plenty of great places to get married in Greece, I honestly believe that Athens ticks all the boxes. Therefore, in the following lines, you'll discover some top-class venues for your Athenian marriage.
So, let's find out where you can host your wedding in Athens, Greece, this year and what to expect.
The best wedding venues in Athens, Greece
The Athens wedding venues featured below appear in no particular order. My goal is to give you inspiration for picking the right venue for your marriage and not to create a shortlist. Since I photographed plenty of weddings in Athens, you'll also see some of my photos to get a better impression.
"Athens is an excellent place to host your special day in Greece. The Greek capital provides highly professional services implemented in unique spots with natural beauty."
Island Art & Taste
No list of Athens wedding venues can be complete without Island Art & Taste. Located in Varkiza, one of the most beloved spots of the Athens Riviera, Island is a fantastic wedding venue. This stunning seaside place is known for its memorable events and wild parties. Island has reshaped the nightlife of the Athenian Riviera, and every summer, the most famous international DJs spend nights on the decks.
As a Greek wedding photographer, I often have the opportunity to shoot wedding photos on Island, and I'm always impressed by its style. The venue offers six different spaces to choose from for your wedding, and the small waterfront church is the ideal backdrop for a beautiful wedding. Plus, the poolside terrace guarantees a night staring at the sky while sipping signature cocktails. What's more to ask?
If you have always daydreamed of a venue with endless views of the Aegean Sea and enjoying a stylish environment, look no further. The Island Art & Taste is one of the best wedding venues in Greece. Whenever I shoot weddings at Island Art & Taste, I feel delighted by the uplifting mood and the stunning decorations. What a place to host your wedding reception!
Ble Azur
If you're after a more serene yet elegant environment, Ble Azure is definitely an option to consider. Located also in the Athens Riviera, in Alimos, Ble Azure is a wedding venue that will offer you a relaxed vibe.
Ble Azure is exactly what its name suggests: an ideal location next to the sea, surrounded by olive trees. The beach of Alimos is one of the prettiest beaches in the Attica region, and you can't go wrong choosing this gorgeous venue on the green peninsula.
I fondly remember Ble Azure, and shooting wedding photos on its premises is always a joy. The venue's natural environment and impressive light installations create a cozy atmosphere for newlyweds and their guests. All in all, Ble Azure is a unique place for your wedding ceremony.
Grecotel Cape Sounio
For Greek antiquity lovers, there's an unbeatable location in the Attica region to get married. Cape Sounio is a world-famous spot overlooking the iconic Temple of Poseidon and a cluster of Aegean Sea islands. And the on-site Grecotel Cape Sounio rightly ranks among the best wedding venues in Greece.
Located straight at the beach and offering a variety of wedding and honeymoon packages, Grecotel Cape Sounio sees increasing popularity among couples. A wide range of wedding celebrations is on offer: everything is possible, from beach parties to sunset cocktails. And, of course, you can choose either an Orthodox wedding or a civil marriage.
As a Greek wedding photographer, Grecotel Cape Sounio always fascinates me with its classiness and sophistication. Exchanging vows of eternal love in front of the turquoise sea and with the Temple of Poseidon as a backdrop is unique.
Vouliagmeni Lake
Now, here's probably the most unconventional yet unique Greek wedding venue on this list. Vouliagmeni Lake is a natural wonder of Attica's landscape -and if you're wondering, yes, that's indeed a lake. The lake was formed more than 2,000 years ago, and its water derives from underground currents directly from Mount Hymettus. The so-called "Sunken Lake" is an iconic spot of Athens, and its water is always warm enough to swim.
As you can easily imagine, this Athens Riviera wedding venue is among Athens' highlights. Therefore, choosing Lake Vouliagmeni for your Athens marriage will definitely impress your guests. Wedding receptions are always planned in detail, and the staff shows a high degree of professionalism. Couples seeking a natural environment for their wedding should look no further.
As a wedding photographer, I must admit that I'm always impressed every time I visit Vouliagmeni Lake for a photoshoot. The natural light and the breathtaking landscape always result in stunning wedding photos.
Ktima 48
Although you will discover beautiful wedding venues in other areas later in the article, I will feature one more location on the Athenian Riviera. The reason is that Ktima 48 is a fantastic waterfront estate in Anavyssos, one of Attica's best beaches. In addition, Ktima 48 has recently been refurbished, thus, further elevating the overall experience.
This 5000 square meter estate can easily accommodate 500 guests and is conveniently located just half an hour from the Athens Airport. Of course, Ktima 48 enjoys marvelous sea views and features top-notch facilities on its premises. The picturesque chapel on-site means you don't have to search elsewhere to host your ceremony.
Apart from being a stylish place for a wedding reception, Ktima 48 also has a honeymoon suite, and you can have it for the wedding night accommodation. Overall, I think that Ktima 48 is one of the most elegant venues in Athens, and it's definitely a place to consider for your destination wedding in Greece.
Hatzi Mansion
As I mentioned earlier, not every wedding venue is located on the Athens Riviera. Although it enjoys a distant sea view, Hatzi Mansion is one of the most beautiful mansions in Attica's countryside. Ktima Hatzi is hands down one of the most luxurious wedding venues in Athens. The mansion itself and the rich landscape will remind you of Tuscany, but everything feels very Greek here.
Ktima Hatzi is located on top of a fruitful hill overlooking the Saronic Gulf and its islands. The family-run neo-Byzantine mansion provides an elegant backdrop for your wedding, and you'll sometimes feel like being in a beautiful art gallery. In addition, the estate has its own vineyard, which adds a special touch to its atmosphere.
Ktima Hatzi is a perfect wedding venue for nature lovers and people enjoying styling environments. I have great memories of weddings at the mansion, and on a clear summer day, the views of the Saronic islands are unforgettable.
Pyrgos Melissourgou
Continuing our journey through rural Attica's wedding venues, it's obligatory to mention the breathtaking Pyrgos Melissourgou. Located close to the Cape Sounion peninsula in the area of Lagonissi, Pyrgos Melissourgou is a 17th-century castle. Although just one kilometer from the sea, the estate's amphitheatric position offers fantastic sea views and sunsets.
This historic 15-acre estate has belonged to the same family for over two hundred years and hosts a beautiful small church available for wedding ceremonies. The castle has a history of more than 350 years, and it pairs fine with the modern facilities needed for marriage in Athens. Plus, its spacious pool is big enough to feel like a lake and gives a relaxing water ambiance.
Melissourgos Castle is one of the most poetic venues I've seen as a wedding photographer in Athens. Honestly, if you daydream of finding a historical estate for your wedding in Greece, that's one of the finest options.
Sinterina Estate
One of Athens' best-kept secrets is Sinterina Estate. That's one of my favorite places to shoot wedding photos, and there are various reasons for that.
Although you are still in the Greek capital, Sinterina Estate has a fantastic rural feeling. Surrounded by pure nature and a breathtaking landscape, this elegant estate features three houses and two guesthouses, while a small church is available for the ceremony. The estate's location guarantees a unique wedding reception, and the private gardens and patios will give you a sense of open space under the starlit sky.
I think Sinterina Estate is a fantastic wedding venue for those seeking a peaceful environment with a stylish touch. This farmhouse is in the middle of Attica's countryside, and if you enjoy private and serene spots, you'll be thrilled.
Reef Athens Riviera
Last but definitely not least, Reef Athens Riviera couldn't be missing from this article. After a short stroll in countryside wedding venues, it's time to return to the Athenian Riviera. And I guess there's no better place to finish our wandering than Reef.
Set next to the sea and surrounded by evergreen trees, Reef Athens Riviera is a modern venue dressed in earthly tones. Reef enjoys excellent sea views, spans an area of 1,500 square meters, and has a capacity of 300 people. The venue is known for its high-quality cocktails mixed especially for wedding receptions, and features a luxurious suite for the newlyweds.
Reef Athens Riviera has a unique vibe, and whenever I attended a marriage as a photographer, I could see what a significant impact the place had on the guests. I find it the perfect wedding venue for people that enjoy easy-going and minimal ceremonies.
